Adams Kids

Had such a great time with the Adams kids last weekend. Here are just a tiny portion of the amazing shots we got! The kids were a joy to work with. Thanks for choosing onthefly to capture their wonderful, distinct personalities!

Exerpics!

April 25-still cloudy but the trees are so beautiful, especially in contrast with the cloudy gray sky. My phone didn't do it justice.

April 24--typical Nebraska weather...from beautiful spring day to stormy in a matter of an hour.

April 23--deck lights. Looks like a little hot air balloon to me.

In the Eye of the Beholder...or in this case, me.

Playing with the concept of perception. I tried lots of new things with the camera today, experimented with angles and settings. Of course, it's something I do a lot. We are open to learning all the time, and think that no matter how much we grow in our experience here atonthefly, there's always more to learn. These are some of the photos of Charlie Brenan, my daughter and favorite model. These photos were taken indoors, using a Canon 20D camera with a 55mm lens and a large window letting in natural light at midday. I believe that the best photos come from natural light. That's when you get the most organic and natural look, plus without extra contraptions and lights, the subject feels much more relaxed. This translates to a better picture.

KRK Rokit 6 studio monitors. The sound that comes out of these beauties is amazing. They are one of my favorite things....plus they are yellow. How fun is that?

Too Bad We Can't Taste with our Eyeballs.....

These probably have 3000 calories, just in the frosting....but they were so pretty to look at! I nabbed this pic at work, using my palm pre+, so it's not the best quality. This is the first of my daily exerpics. Exer-cise.....pics.

I'm thinking of cows, and monsters, but friendly ones...

Black and white photography makes even meal-time seem beautiful and dramatic. Ok, so mealtime has enough drama already, but I love b&w photos because it takes away the distractions of color and let's you see the beauty in the moment. Simplicity.

These are my favorite b&w's of Charlie Brenan. She's my almost five month old daughter who puts up with the camera being in her face quite well. In fact, I think she likes it. I've gotten a lot of experience just by taking time at least once a week to photograph her. Writers say that to be successful, you have to write everyday, no matter the subject. I believe that the same is true for photography. Therefore, I am going to take pictures everyday, no matter the subject matter. This is crucial for the growth and development of onthefly photography, and for me personally. Creativity needs an outlet, and so the more you let it out, the bigger it grows. Hehe. Won't be too long before I have a full-grown monster on my hands.

Research...like I'm back in school again with a paper due tomorrow...

I've been reading and reading for hours about wedding photography. I've booked my first official wedding for onthefly, and now I'm in a very appropriate state of panic. Lists need to be made, scouting done, talks with bride + family, officiator, etc.....but I must say I am beyond ecstatic.

And I truly believe that the photographs that come out of the day will be spectacular and unique.
Between the two of us here at onthefly, we have lots of experience in nature and abstract photography and close-up portraiture. Expanding our experience is very exciting! The wedding is July 24th. We have a couple other appointments between now and then, and as word gets out, our calendar seems to be filling.
Make sure if you are interested to contact us. We are providing very discounted rates as we begin our business!

Oh Happy Day!

Today has marked the beginning of onthefly's new blog! Today we went to Holmes Lake to photograph two children and two babies from two different families. Despite some travel hitches from the client, the day turned out wonderful and the photos are beautiful!

Onthefly believes in a minimalist approach to photography. Moments are sweeter when captured during spontaneity and not when posed. We also believe that touching up and over-editing photos is non-essential and detracts from the beauty of the moment captured.

Check out some of the photos from today, and let us know what you think! We also believe that we are always learning and in the process of discovering new ways of accomplishing our goals, so your opinion is important!
